UK, France, Spain sign A400M support contract
The UK, France and Spain have signed a long term global support service contract with Airbus Defence and Space for their A400M airlifter fleets, Airbus announced on 7 December.
The contract was awarded by the UK’s Defence Equipment & Support Agency, France’s DGA and Spain’s DGAM through the OCCAR international programme management organisation.
The agreement follows previously signed contracts which provided support for France and UK in their early years of operation of the A400M. During its initial phase other OCCAR nations can join the agreement.
The contract covers a spares pool, technical and engineering support, maintenance and flight operations services. Sharing these resources and assets under a common central services operation will provide the three nations cost-effective and flexible support.
Stephan Miegel, head of military aircraft services, said: ‘The contracts that were put in place to see the A400M into initial service have worked well, but this next stage will provide a sophisticated and highly integrated support service that will further free operators to focus on their mission, knowing that they can rely on robust support for the years ahead.’
