Russian Helicopters and United Engine Corporation are to pursue certification of the Mi-171A2 helicopter and VK-2500PS-03 engine in Peru, the company announced on 18 June.

Certification with the Peruvian aviation authority, the General Directorate for Civil Aviation (DGCAP), is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

Peru is the largest operator of Russian helicopters in Latin America. Certification of the Mi-171A2 in the country will open the door for Russian Helicopters to target the market for the most advanced model of the Mi-8/17 helicopter type.

The Mi-171A2 helicopter has VK-2500PS-03 engines with a digital control system, a more efficient X-shaped tail rotor and a new main rotor with composite blades with the improved airfoil shape. The aircraft can be operated safely in highland conditions, at low and high temperatures, in high humidity and over water.

The aircraft has glass cabin, digital avionics, video cameras support for external load operations, modern terrain awareness and warning systems, and airborne and obstacle collision avoidance systems for improved safety.

The helicopter is available in transport, passenger and VIP versions.
