Avalex Technologies’ AVM4178Q widescreen HD display and AVR8411 HD digital video recorder (DVR) have been selected by National Grid Line Inspection to upgrade video monitoring systems on its fleet of UK-based Airbus AS350 and Bell 429 helicopters, the company announced on 28 August.

The 17-inch widescreen display offers full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution for ultra-sharp images. Quad processing allows the operator to simultaneously compare images from multiple sources.

The AVR8411 is a fifth generation, single-channel DVR in a compact housing. Its foot switch enables the operator to record audio at selected times. Its advanced features also include playback while recording capability. The system’s front panel is NVIS compatible, with a graphical display that provides a wide range of status information to the operator.

The new equipment will help increase the efficiency and accuracy of National Grid Line Inspection’s helicopters to inspect the safety and integrity of its 14,000km of electrical transmission lines in less time.
