Zhuhai 2016: Y-20 family eyes expansion
Two newly received units of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Y-20 Kunpeng transport aircraft participated in the Zhuhai Air Show from 1-6 November.
Of interest, however, was the appearance of a scale model of a stretched version labelled the Y-20F-100.
The Y-20F-100 is ostensibly a civilian cargo jet currently in the preliminary research phase. The Aviation Corporation of China (AVIC) stated, ‘This project represents our commitment to transferring military technologies to boost civilian sectors, and will fill the absence of a domestically developed large cargo plane.’
The airframe will be lengthened so that it can carry 28 airfreight
