NHV Group has signed a new contract with Elia to provide helicopter services in support of the construction of a high voltage electricity grid in Belgian waters in the North Sea, the company announced on 24 January.

NHV will use H145 helicopters to support the contract. The operations are expected to commence in April 2019, with flights departing from NHV’s base in Ostend.

The Airbus H145 is a four tonne-class twin-engine helicopter with high hoisting and hover performance. The aircraft can operate in performance class 1 conditions, while its compact airframe can manoeuvre in confined offshore environments.

The Modular Offshore Grid (MOG) will be the first of its kind in Belgium. The MOG will group and connect the offshore produced energy of four new wind farms, Rentel, Seastar, Mermaid and Northwester 2, so that it can be injected in the Belgian onshore grid via fewer sea cables. The MOG is scheduled to be operational by the end of the third quarter of 2019.
