Helitech 2016: Pratt powering through (video)

13th October 2016 - 09:00 GMT | by Grant Turnbull in Amsterdam

With its engines powering some of the bestselling helicopter types in Europe, Pratt & Whitney Canada can boast a strong position in the region.

The company produces the now well-established PW200 (500-700 shp) family to power the H135, AW109, MD902 Explorer and Bell 429 helicopters – popular rotorcraft in segments such as parapublic and EMS.

While in the medium twin segment, the PT6C (1,600-2,000 shp) family powers the 7t AW139 and the new H175 from Airbus Helicopters, both forging ahead in markets such as search and rescue and oil and gas.

Shephard spoke to P&WC president John Saabas about the company's performance in Europe and its future initiatives, which include the development of a new engine family that can power next-generation heavy-lift aircraft.
