USAF opts for tablet-based training

6th July 2016 - 15:30 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

Samsung Electronics America and Intelligent Decisions have received a contract from the US Air Force (USAF) for the supply of Samsung Galaxy Tab S2s to US bases worldwide, it was announced on 5 July.

The Galaxy Tab S2 will be used in-flight and to reduce the number of ruggedised laptops required by the USAF to access more than 2,000 technical orders that allow maintenance personnel to launch, recover and maintain aircraft assets.

The device will provide USAF technicians a single point of access to digitised technical orders, manuals and parts databases to streamline maintenance operations and troubleshoot aircraft repairs.

USAF technicians can also use the device to process real-time maintenance data collection, deliver paperless technical orders and securely access the air force's Enhanced Technical Information Management System (ETIMS) portal. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet will be included in the USAF e-Tools programme, with immediate effect.

John Curtis, vice president of sales, Samsung Electronics America, said: ‘Security is paramount to government agencies and the Galaxy Tab S2 was engineered with the needs of the USAF in mind, from meeting strict security and network compatibility requirements with our defence-grade Samsung KNOX platform to durability, quality and TAA-compliance. We’re proud to partner with Intelligent Decisions to provide innovative technology to the USAF’s flight line technicians.’
