Avalon 2017: RAAF announces MRTT FOC and upgrade

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) announced at the Avalon Air Show on 2 March that its fleet of Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft had achieved full operational capability (FOC), while at the same time signing a research agreement with Airbus to develop a 'smarter' MRTT.

At a briefing for media, chief of the RAAF Air Marshal Leo Davies declared that the KC-30A MRTT had achieved FOC.

The RAAF currently has five MRTTs in service, with a further two ex-Qantas aircraft due to be added to the fleet in late 2017 and late 2019 respectively.
