Russia donates An-26 transport aircraft to Nicaragua

Russia has donated two Antonov An-26 transport aircraft to Nicaragua. The aircraft were formally handed over to the Nicaraguan Army on the 23 February during a ceremony.

The two aircraft will be used for troop and cargo transport, and in humanitarian support operations, notably by providing airlift to the humanitarian and rescue unit 'Comandante William Ramirez,' according to the army. The humanitarian and rescue unit was established in 2010 and is intended to provide a relief response capability in natural disaster situations.
