GE Aviation wins F414 engine PBL contract
On 6 January GE Aviation announced that it has won a Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contract from the US Navy covering F414 engine components.
The $460 million contract will run from 2015 to 2017 and cover engine component repair, replacement and programme support for the EA-18G Growler and F/A-18 E/F aircraft. It will provide the operational readiness requirements for the F414 fleet through the navy's Fleet Readiness Centers West and Southeast.
The contract is an extension of a series of F414 PBL contracts dating back to 2002. The PBL contracts have translated to significantly lower acquisition costs with improved readiness for the navy.
The two aircraft are powered by twin F414 engines rated at 22,000 pounds and in the 9:1 thrust-to-weight ratio class.
