US Army increases funding for Patriot radar replacement

The US Army is seeking to boost funding as part of efforts to replace the legacy Patriot radar system in its lower-tier missile defence architecture.

The release of the DoD’s FY19 budget documents on 12 February revealed that the service had requested $120.4 million for the radar sensor replacement initiative, known as the Lower-tier Air and Missile Defense (LTAMD) programme.

This is an increase from FY18 when the service requested $76.2 million for LTAMD, and represents a continuing rise in investment for the programme that will see development funding top around $376.7 million in FY2021.
