Euronaval 2012: Rolls Royce engine chosen for hovercraft design

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract from Textron Marine and Land Systems to provide its MT7 gas turbine for the US Navy's future hovercraft fleet.

The companies are developing an initial development craft of the Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC), which will replace the navy's Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) hovercraft. The programme could potentially see 73 platforms manufactured.

The MT7 is derived from the AE1107 which powers the USMC's MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, and 'this contract is a huge opportunity for us', John Lovasz, VP of marketing and business development at Rolls-Royce Naval Marine, told Shephard at the Euronaval exhibition in
