Australia speeds up transport fleet communications

Australia’s Department of Defence (DoD) has announced that it would roll out broadband on more of the country's C-130J Hercules aircraft fleet.

Honeywell will provide its JetWave hardware solution that gives Ka-band SATCOM broadband internet connectivity via Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite network.

One Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) transport aircraft was fitted with this solution in 2017 as a trial case, with Australia being the first country to do so. That aircraft was referred to as the ‘Jericho Demonstrator’, the name derived from Project Jericho, the aim of which is to turn the RAAF into a ‘fifth-generation air force’.
