Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
An analysis of alternatives (AoA) will begin this year for the Maritime Tactical Command and Control (MTC-2) future programme of record.
Speaking at the AFCEA 2013 conference, Capt Donald Harder, programme manager for the US Navy’s PMW 150 Command and Controls programme office, told Shephard: ‘We will hit the acquisition requirements before moving forward.’
He added that the AoA will be completed in June and the next step is to look to industry to provide specific capabilities for the MTC-2 software – although the extent of the industry involvement has yet to be defined.
