Canada advances vehicle communications modernisation

The Canadian Army is moving steadily forward with a C4I modernisation effort that will see it replace increasingly obsolete systems fitted to its armoured fighting vehicle fleet.

New or updated equipment is being rolled out for the LAV III armoured vehicle, which is currently being upgraded to the LAV 6.0 standard, as well as the army’s Leopard 2A4/A4M/A6M MBT fleet and newly-delivered Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicles.

A C4I modernisation project – known as Capability Pack (CP) TOPAZ – is currently being undertaken that addresses several shortfalls including hardware obsolescence, lack of digitisation and outdated communications cryptography.
