PLA is forced to alter its recruitment cycle

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) recently implemented important changes to the PLA’s recruitment processes, moving its intake of conscripts from once per year to twice, as announced on 16 January.

The changes mean that new cohorts will enter basic training in the ranks of the PLA after recruitment deadlines on 1 March and 1 September each year. Previously it only occurred in August, which benefitted synchronisation with the graduation of college students each summer.

By the same token, serving personnel who are departing the PLA will also do so twice a year instead of the previous once. The official announcement
