ADECS 2019: Asia has taste for Russian and Chinese trainers
The Lao People’s Liberation Army Air Force received its first Yakovlev Yak-130 advanced jet trainer (AJT) from Russia on 20 December, and three more have been delivered subsequently from an order of ten.
The first twin-seat aircraft was delivered to Wattay International Airport in Vientiane aboard an Il-76TD transport aircraft.
It is believed that Vientiane has purchased a total of ten Yak-130 AJTs, with the order placed in August 2017 and priced at about $300 million. In addition to the jet trainers, the package of contracts between Russia and Laos also foresee delivery of tanks and light armoured vehicles.
