Germany sets dates for delivery of new MKS 180 combat ships

With the signing of the contract by the German MoD for the procurement of four MKS 180 multipurpose combat ships, the saga as to what will replace the F123 Brandenburg-class frigates seems to have finally been concluded.

Prime contractor for the programme is Netherlands shipbuilder Damen Shipyards, which will partner German yards in the manufacturing process, while Thales Netherlands will provide radar and other sensors. The contract is worth an initial €4.6 billion ($5.2 billion), potentially rising to €6 billion, with an option for two more vessels.
