VBL replacement could attract non-French bidders

Although the French Army will soon receive upgraded Arquus (ex-Panhard Defense) VBL 4x4 scout vehicles, in the longer term a new vehicle will be required as part of the Scorpion network-enabled capability programme.

The new 4x4 scout vehicle is currently referred to as the Vehicule Blinde d’Aide e l’Engagement (VBAE) and will be part of Phase 3 in the Scorpion programme.

French procurement agency DGA has not yet issued an RfI and the VBAE programme could well be thrown open to contractors outside France, although all AFV programmes in the country are dominated by domestic industry.
