US Army ammo management system updated
The Standard Army Ammunition System (SAAS) used by the US Army is being updated to enhance capability, cyber-attack resistance and usability, the army announced on 21 February.
The SAAS is used to manage and control ammunition supply operations. The new version adds cloud-based computing capabilities that provide a centralised server and database for near real-time ammunition asset visibility across the entire network architecture.
Transparency has also been improved, so that ammunition information can be viewed by managers and planners to streamline ammunition purchases, improve requirement projections and cost efficiencies.
The SAAS modification also has a more intuitive user interface, enabling personnel to use the system and generate reports more quickly.
The next phase of the implementation will see migration of the various installation activities and tactical units around the world completed. US Army Europe is already online, and all update work is expected to be complete in July.
The current update will act as a bridge to the rollout of an entirely new management system due to go online in the next five or six years.
