The Royal Canadian Navy’s first Resolve-class naval support ship has been delivered by Davie Shipbuilding.

Asterix will enter service with the Royal Canadian Navy and be operated by Federal Fleet Services from Canadian Forces Base Halifax.

On the journey from Québec City to the base, testing of the 26,000 tonne vessel’s propulsion, navigation and military systems was completed. Integration training is now taking place throughout January 2018 prior to entering Canadian naval operations from February 2018.

The Resolve-class naval support ships, designed by Rolls Royce, will support military operations - specifically replenishment-at-sea.

Asterix will remain under the ownership of Federal Fleet Services and be operated by a mixed crew of Canadian merchant seafarers and Royal Canadian Navy personnel for at least the next 10 years
