Thales fire control system selected for French Navy
Thales has received a contract to upgrade the anti-air missile fire control system on the French Navy’s Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, the company announced on 6 January. The contract was awarded by the Joint Armaments Cooperation Organisation (OCCAr) on behalf of the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA).
The contract will see Thales upgrade the aircraft carrier’s SAAM France surface-to-air anti-missile system with a solution based on its CONTROLView command and control (C2) system. The upgrade will include a state-of-the-art open IT architecture and will facilitate subsequent maintenance work on the system and extend its service life.
CONTROLView performs threat evaluation, weapon assignment and coordination of very short, short and medium-range engagements, enabling commanders to make complex, critical decisions more quickly and with greater precision and security.
The new equipment will be installed as part of a refit planned to take place in 2018.
