US Navy's newest Warfighting Development Centre prioritises expert growth

The new US Naval Information Warfighting Development Centre (NIWDC) has seen significant progress in its efforts to train subject matter experts in the domain, making this its top priority for the coming years.

NIWDC is the fifth US Navy WDC, with counterparts in aviation (where the 'Top Gun' programme is maintained), expeditionary warfighting, surface and mine warfighting, and undersea. 

NIWDC entered initial operational capability in late March 2017 and has a goal of reaching full operational capability at some point in 2019, said Capt John Watkins, the founding commanding officer of NIWDC.
