SEWIP 1B3 system upgrade underway
General Dynamics has been awarded a production contract by the US Navy for Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) Block 1B3, the company announced on 11 January.
General Dynamics will deliver Block 1B3 system upgrades over the next five years.
The wider Block 1 production of SEWIP work will provide enhanced electronic warfare capabilities to navy ship combat systems improving anti-ship missile defence, counter targeting and surveillance.
Block 1B3 specifically involves improvements to situational awareness of the tactical environment surrounding the ship. It is the final upgrade for Block 1, providing high-gain/high-sensitivity electronic capability.
The work is being carried out on new and existing US Navy ships.
Carlo Zaffanella, a vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Mission Systems, said: ‘This award continues our strong, trusted partnership with the navy to provide affordable, mission-critical electronic warfare capabilities for combat ships deployed worldwide.’
