New Zealand to reset defence posture, says defence minister
New Zealand is expected to focus its defence policy towards the Pacific and reassess its defence procurement plans under new proposals from Defence Minister Ron Mark. The coalition government led by Labour and supported by New Zealand First has agreed to review the previous National government’s defence policy set out in the 2016 White Paper.
Mark told Shephard that he expects to publish a new Strategic Defence Policy Statement for 2018 very shortly, and that it would set the foundation for a further review of the Defence Capability Plan (DCP).
