FCAS narrows concept designs to five ‘best’ architectures
The Franco-German-Spanish Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme has moved a significant step closer to defining the specific architecture required to develop a New Generation Fighter (NGF) and remote carriers – UAVs of variable size and weight.
French, German and Spanish air force leaders have now approved the ‘five best architectures’ which will be ‘fundamental to follow on [development] phases’, according to Bruno Fichefeux, head of FCAS at Airbus Defence and Space.
France and Germany formally launched a demonstrator phase in February 2020 which sees Phase 1A specifically address the development of a NGF, remote carriers and combat clouds.
