The price is right for US F-16s to Sofia
Priced at US$1.673 billion, the sale to Bulgaria of eight Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Block 70 fighters has received the green light from the US State Department.
The reported price, in the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notification, has caused public discontent in Sofia, as Bulgaria is known to be one of the poorest countries in the EU. This situation has prompted Lockheed Martin and the US Embassy in Sofia to release communications saying that the aforementioned price is the maximum possible one, while the real deal will be inked at a lower price.
