The latest member of the Russian made Altius UAV family - Altius-U - has commenced flight testing, despite the country’s MoD yet to publicise or confirm when the aircraft is set to be ordered.

The HALE UAV, powered by two heavy-fuel internal combustion engines is being touted for strike, armed patrol and maritime reconnaissance missions, with the programme at an early developmental and testing phase, with its maiden flight taking place on 20 August.

To date, the programme has been beset by delays whilst the Russian MoD continues to exercise strict control over how the systems development is communicated.
