Indra launches new driving simulator
Indra has launched a new driving simulator for 4-wheel drive military vehicles, it announced on 11 April. The simulator aims to standardise the training of armed forces personnel.
Indra has already made the delivery of the first two simulators to the Spanish Army, which have been set up at the national training centre of San Gregorio in Zaragoza. Spain will use the simulators for driving training for the Iveco Light Multirole Vehicle and the RG-31 Nyala MRAP.
The simulator is designed around a roll in/roll out cab exchange system to recreate driving conditions in both types of vehicles. The system reproduces the actual cab fitted on a platform that provides motion. Inside, the visual system reproduces the different driving scenarios and sound effects of the surrounding area. The system can also be networked with the help of an HLA connection to interact with simulators located at other bases for participating in joint virtual exercises.
Indra's driving simulators allow all types of exercises to be conducted and recreate a variety of scenarios such as highways, two-way roads, bridges, cities, mountain roads, countryside and deserts, as well as different traffic and weather conditions and surfaces such as ice, mud and dust.
They also provide training for driving while wearing night-vision goggles and the use of roller equipment.
