EDA kicks off underwater diver project

Naval forces in Bulgaria, France and Greece are set to benefit from an upgrade in underwater diver capabilities, after the European Defence Agency (EDA) published details of a new initiative.

The EDA’s Underwater Intervention Capability Project was officially granted the go-ahead on 16 April with the aim of developing a ‘Deployable Modular Underwater Intervention Capability package’ (DIVEPACK) for the sponsoring nations.

According to EDA officials, DIVEPACK will be implemented through the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) project, led by naval services from Bulgaria with the support of France and Greece.
