The year ahead: European land programmes
In Europe, falling defence expenditure means that most countries are struggling to maintain significant force sizes that can sustain one medium sized operation at a time.
Whilst most countries on the continent are struggling to replace obsolete equipment to defend their countries, it is the UK and France that are trying to maintain forces that can deploy on a worldwide basis. In some cases they are getting close to losing a critical mass of armoured vehicles and units that can enable a full capability.
