Russian airborne forces receive new armour
Russia’s airborne troops, a highly-mobile independent and elite branch of country’s military, continues to take delivery of new armoured vehicles.
In April 2017, BMD-4M IFVs and BTR-MDM Rakushka APCs were handed over to re-equip the inventory of one of the airborne assault battalions of the 31st Independent Guards Airborne Assault Brigade in Ulyanovsk.
The battalion got 27 BMD-4M IFVs, three BMD-4K commander’s vehicles and 16-20 BTR-MDM APCs. Both of these lightweight tracked combat vehicles can be transported by Il-76MD aircraft of the Russian Air and Space Forces and delivered by parachute platform directly on the battlefield.
