Philippines boosts 155mm firepower
The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and Army are set to field 155mm artillery batteries for the first time.
Both services have previously relied mostly on 105mm-calibre artillery pieces, but in late April the PMC took receipt of its first batch of three Soltam M-71 155mm L/39 towed howitzers after they were shipped from Israel.
Another nine guns are scheduled to be delivered this month, of which three will go to the PMC and six to the Philippine Army. This will give each service one battery of six M-71 howitzers each.
