Pentagon flags LCS for 'significant' cost growth
The US Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is one of two programmes to trigger a per unit cost growth breach the Pentagon is warning lawmakers.
On 3 April the Pentagon released its latest acquisition report card covering 2017 programme costs. The document details cost, schedule and performance changes for defence acquisition programmes for lawmakers.
For 2017 the cost for major weapons systems grew from $1.7 trillion to $1.9 trillion. This was primarily due to plans to increase the quantity of purchases, a 'stretch-out' to development and procurement schedules, engineering changes and cost estimate hikes.
