West 2013: US Navy trials 4G communication links

The US Navy started trials in January to validate 4G cellular long-term evolution (LTE) technology as a possible intra-vessel high performance broadband communications system.   

Cambium Networks is to providing high capacity (up to 300mbps) inter-vessel backhaul that will allow Oceus Network’s LTE-enabled handsets and smart devices on one vessel to seamlessly communicate with LTE-enabled devices on another vessel within the same carrier group.

The Cambium Networks point-to-point (PTP) 45600 microwave system, fitted on a gimbal positioning device and secured under a dome, will be tested for 18 months by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) on the LHD
