US Budget: USAF commits to space competitions

The 2017 US budget has confirmed the extension and continuation of its space satellite programmes.

It is providing a budget of $7.1 billion, which is $100 million more than what was provided for in the previous budget.

Furthermore the US Air Force is committed to holding open competitions for future development programmes as a way of making them more cost-effective. 

As such USAF is opening up the future GPS III programme following a request for proposal (RFP) issued in January. The budget reveals that the follow on competition will procure the next set of Space Vehicles (SV) 11 to 32. Lockheed Martin is under contract to deliver the first
