Australia looks towards space with force restructure, investment and training
Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
Space sensor systems company Urthecast is planning to launch a new satellite constellation comprised of 16 satellites between 2019 and 2020.
Speaking at the Defence Geospatial Intelligence conference in London on 18 January, Wade Larson, CEO at UrtheCast, said that the aim is to build on Earth Observation (EO) capabilities to enable multiple users to enhance their Geospatial Intelligence abilities.
The company is leading the project and Larson said: ‘We already have two [memorandum of understandings (MOU)] signed with potential customers,’ said Larson, ‘[Surrey Satellite Technology] is already a common partner who could build the satellites.’
