Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
South Korea has decided to proceed with the acquisition of two Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Elta ELM-2080 Green Pine Block C early-warning radars on 27 November.
These radars, to be acquired for KRW330 billion ($292 million), are needed to improve South Korea’s lower-tier air defence capabilities, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). It said they would ‘detect and track ballistic missiles from a long distance at an early stage’.
The trailer-mounted radars will be delivered sometime in the early 2020s, joining two ELM-2080 Green Pine Block B radars that became operational in 2012. These were purchased from IAI
