Ruag receivers for SARah satellites
Ruag Space has been commissioned by OHB System to supply navigation receivers for the two reflector satellites in the SARah radar reconnaissance system, the company announced on 30 July.
Ruag Space in Austria will produce and test the receivers and Ruag Space in Sweden will build the receiver antennas. They will be delivered to prime contractor OHB System in Bremen at the beginning of 2017.
The German armed forces will replace its current SAR-Lupe system with the SARah reconnaissance system from the end of 2019. Ruag Space's next-generation navigation receivers, which are specifically developed for satellites, will be capable of processing signals from various other navigation satellite systems, including the European Galileo and US GPS systems.
Ruag Space in Vienna developed the space-hardened receivers and tailored them for meeting precise orbit determination (POD) requirements. The new receivers can simultaneously process signals at two frequencies for highly accurate positioning information.
The design of the new navigation receivers is based on application-specific integrated circuits, creating a lightweight device that complies with reliability and radiation resistance requirements for space deployment.
