Philippines hunts for C4ISTAR and radars

The Philippines military is in the market for new ‘command-and-control and radar systems’, Manila announced on 4 January.

A news piece on the website of the Office of the President of the Philippines quoted Fernando Manalo, the Department of National Defence’s (DND) undersecretary for finance, munitions and materiel, as saying a command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (C4ISTAR) system would be sourced from the US.

A total of $95.5 million has been allocated for the C4ISTAR acquisition. The stipulation of an American system makes sense given the two nations’ defence treaty and expected increased rotations and
