Pentagon ringfences space advancements

The Pentagon’s commitment to satellite and space research – in the midst of an overall decrease in science and technology funding – shows the strategic importance of space, according to the Department of Defense’s leadership.

The US fiscal science and technology budget for 2015 has been cut by $500 million compared to 2014 – a 5% decrease, according to figures released on 14 May.

Despite this, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has been awarded a $136 million budget increase to continue innovative space research and development in 2015.
