Australia is looking to improve its presence in space with a focus on communications and creating a dedicated segment of its defence forces committed to the domain.
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is looking at a comprehensive communications upgrade to replace its current obsolete equipment.
New Zealand’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) issued an RfI for Phase 2 of its Strategic Bearer Network Project (SBNP) on 9 February.
‘This request for information seeks information and costs on technologies that may provide defence with a major communications capability refresh to meet contemporary requirements for the next 15 years,’ the MoD said.
The NZDF’s radio network is elderly, and existing communications assets are ‘reaching the end of their economic life’, according to the MoD.
