Northrop-led team outlines WGS proposal
A Northrop Grumman-led team has submitted a proposal to the Australian government for utilisation of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system. The team also includes ViaSat and Optus.
The team's proposal will allow Australia to access Northrop Grumman's Satellite Communications Operations and Planning Element (SCOPE) network management system. SCOPE is a network managing, monitoring and operating system integrated with WGS that is used by the US Army Strategy Command.
The team will also offer dual-band satellite terminals from ViaSat, and Optus will provide its satellite operating service.
Ian Irving, chief executive, Northrop Grumman Australia, said: 'Australia has invested approximately AU$1billion in WGS communications capabilities. Northrop Grumman's offering will give Australia the ability to fully utilise this capability at the same standard as the US military.
'This programme will form the core of the ADF's sovereign capability in network management. We have developed unrivaled capabilities over 15 years of working closely with the WGS programme in the United States and look forward to working with the ADF to support and further develop this technology in Australia.'
