iXBlue unveils fifth-generation OCTANS
iXBlue has unveiled its fifth-generation OCTANS, an all-in-one gyrocompass and motion sensor for sea navigation, as announced on 14 April.
The OCTANS attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) adds new features such as IMO/IMO-HSC certification and an inertial navigation system product upgrade-path. It is built on iXBlue's Fibre-optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology.
OCTANS provides real-time output for roll, pitch, true heading, heave, as well as acceleration and rate of turn for the vessel without the need for GPS/GNSS. According to the company the system has a heading measurement accuracy of 0.05 degrees Seclat and the capability to provide real-time accurate heave for swells up to 30 seconds.
The system can be used for civil and defence marine applications such as survey, offshore oil and gas, motion monitoring, dynamic positioning, platform stabilisation and navigation in GPS-absent applications such as defence and tunnelling.
