Israeli interest in RAF AWACS replacement grows

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is promoting its business jet-based Conformal Airborne Early Warning (CAEW) aircraft as a new contender for an expected replacement of the Royal Air Force’s ageing Boeing E-3D Sentry fleet.

While a formal requirement to replace the airborne warning and control system (AWACS) has not yet been issued by the UK government, fear from industry that the RAF would elect to purchase Boeing’s E-7 Wedgetail rather than begin an open competition has led to a number of companies coming forward with alternatives to the 737-based aircraft.

Now IAI has joined this call, claiming that its gallium nitride (GaN)
