INS deal for South Korean howitzers
Honeywell is partnering with South Korean firm Navcours to build and maintain an inertial navigation system (INS) that will aid Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) self-propelled howitzers (SPH), it was announced on 2 September.
Honeywell signed a licensing agreement with Navcours for the Tactical Advance Land Inertial Navigator (TALIN) system, technology that ‘enables vehicles and artillery to navigate very precisely, even where GPS satellite guidance is not available’. TALIN systems will be fitted onto upgraded 155mm K55A1 SPHs, a weapon based on the M109A2.
North Korea is known to use GPS jamming against its southern nemesis, so TALIN will allow the above SPH
