Helinet deploys downlink for Suffolk police
Helinet Technologies has deployed a customised microwave downlink solution for the aviation section of the Suffolk County Police Department in the state of New York, it announced on 26 August.
The new downlink system provides a real-time data and HD video link between a ground-based mobile police command vehicle and the two AS350 B2 AStar helicopters in the department's aviation section. The system also includes a tower receive site for end-to-end coverage across the jurisdiction.
The system has been developed to support public safety and law enforcement missions 24/7, using a multiband transmission design for complete interoperability with the transmission systems used by the department's partners. It enables the department to share live data and video with other government and law enforcement agencies during major operations.
The solution has been custom configured with commercial-off-the-shelf products. A 256 Bit AES encryption secures all data, video and audio traffic.
Sgt Brian Barrett, commanding officer, aviation section, Suffolk County Police Department, said: 'Helinet understands the mission critical nature of what we do and has the experience and track record to deliver a downlink solution that will maximise our airborne law enforcement capabilities. With our proximity to New York City, we face similar law enforcement responsibilities and this new system will play a key role in helping us serve the citizens of Suffolk County.'
Ron Magocsi, chief operating officer, Helinet Technologies, said: 'We are pleased to have been selected by the Suffolk County Police Department to deploy this new, state-of-the-art airborne law enforcement capability. We look forward to a close working relationship as we assist the department in safeguarding the people of Suffolk County and the NY Metro region.'
