Harris gets SATCOM terminal orders
Harris Corporation has been awarded $41 million in orders for advanced satellite communications (SATCOM) terminals under the US Army's Modernization of Enterprise Terminals (MET) programme, the company announced on 5 May.
The orders cover the production of SATCOM terminals as well as spare parts, depot and installations.
The company's hardened transportable terminals and fixed-site terminals provide Ka-band and X-band access to the military Wideband Global SATCOM network and legacy satellite networks. The new terminals will provide the backbone for high-priority military communications and missile defence systems worldwide.
Harris is the prime contractor for the army's MET IDIQ contract awarded in 2009. With these new orders, the awarded value increases to $516 million.
Ed Zoiss, president, Harris Electronic Systems, said: 'MET’s state-of-the-art multiband terminals will provide critical communications and situational awareness capabilities for US decision-makers and military personnel deployed worldwide.
'Harris has supported the warfighter with high-performance, cost-effective military satellite communications capabilities for decades, and we are committed to continue this support through the MET programme.'
