The US Army has chosen Harris and Thales to proceed with development of the Handheld, Manpack and Small-form fit (HMS) Rifleman Radio.

It has awarded contracts to each company as part of the full rate production phase of the programme under which they will build 50 radio systems for laboratory testing.

In a statement on 29 April, the US Army said that the tests will determine if the threshold requirements have been met and if they meet the qualifications then they will proceed to operational evaluation.

If the company’s product does not meet the qualification then it will be ‘off-ramped’.
