In response to foreign interest, development of an EW variant of MBDA’s Selective Precision Effects At Range (SPEAR) 3 weapon with jamming capabilities is currently being researched, according to a top company engineer.
Decoy or jamming capabilities would replace the warhead to provide a force multiplier, said Stephen Temple, Chief Engineer of the SPEAR 3 weapon system project speaking at The Royal Aeronautical Society, in London on Wednesday 11 April.
Throughout 2019 the bulk of the work on the EW SPEAR 3 variant will focus on persistence and jamming performance.
Persistence centres around achieving the right range and loiter time which
